Since 16 June 2025, under Comex Resolution 006-2025, Ecuador charges a fixed tariff of US$20 per package on personal courier imports under the 4x4 regime (category B), which had paid no tariff since 2021. The regime covers purchases of up to 4 kg and US$400, four times a year, with an annual cap of US$1,600 per person; reports are not clear on whether both limits must be met. Items in one package pay the US$20 once, but separate purchases, shipment dates or couriers each pay it. Primicias reported on 2 May 2026 that the fee was unchanged and that 4x4 purchases through couriers kept falling, to US$54 million in February 2026 from US$67 million a year earlier, while the heavier category C grew.

What to prepare
- Show Ecuador buyers the US$20 per package fee at checkout and consolidate items into one package where the courier allows it
- Check weight, value and annual-limit data per buyer, since separate packages, dates or couriers each pay the fee
- Compare category C (up to 100 kg and US$5,000, with limits on clothing, footwear and phones) before changing routing
