The 2026-27 federal Budget set aside A$6.6m for product safety reforms including mandatory safety obligations for online marketplaces and nationally consistent e-bike guidelines. On 6 August 2026 the Government directed the ACCC to develop a nationally consistent safety standard under the Australian Consumer Law for e-bikes and other e-micromobility devices. A Treasury consultation on recalls and post-market product safety ran from 21 September to 18 October 2026; marketplace obligations and the e-bike standard are described as later reforms with no timing given.
